Room 9 2/3 Year Old, Full Time

Mrs. Sunita, Mrs. Latha, Mrs. Masako, Mrs. Iyer and Ms. Merry

The year has passed by so quickly it is June already. It was a fun filled year with lots of new experiences and memories. As the year rolls to an end we cannot help feeling nostalgic and sentimental. The children have all grown up so much, they handle everyday things with such confidence it is amazing to see their emotional, physical and social development and growth. Many of the children who started school with diapers now do not need them anymore: some of them used to never climb on the bikes it brings us great joy when we see some learning to scoot on their bikes and some pedaling their bikes/ Children who could barely speak a word of English when they started are making complete sentences and using words to express their needs. It is pure joy to see the pride on their faces when they accomplish things that are taken for granted by us adults.

In June we will be talking about rain forest, beach animals, Mother Goose books, Sea and animals living in the sea and also end of the month we will be talking about 4th of July. We will be doing lot of summer activities including playing in water so we recommend that you send sun block lotion, clothes that are ok to get messy and swim clothes for your children, a pair of clothes to change, beach towel and comfortable shoes that can be washed.

Mrs. Iyer is going to India in June and will be back only in September. Yu and Akito are going to Japan. We hope you all have a safe journey. We are saying goodbye to Jadyn and Janet, we will miss you both. ______________________________________

The gifts, flowers, cards and tasty treats were very appreciated. We were very touched by your generosity.

Thank you to Mr. Snow, Madison's dad for getting us an appointment with the Sunnyvale Ticonderoga Fire Station. The children really enjoyed being able to get close to the fire engine. They loved learning about fire safety. To the parents who drove and chaperoned our field trip to the Palo Alto Zoo, our sincerest thanks. We would like to thank Mrs. Mock for her presentation on how to care for your teeth and gums. The official school year is almost over and we would like to thank all the parents who helped us with our class activities. We appreciate all your support.

The first week of June, we will be talking about farm animals. We will learn where milk comes from and what foods are produced from milk. We will learn about chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, and how they contribute on the farm. Some of our cooking projects will include: making scrambled eggs and milk shakes.

The second week, our topic will be on Father's Day. We will be making cards, gifts and sharing the kinds of activities we like doing with our dads. We will be talking about why we love our dad's. On Friday, June 13th, we will have a daddy and me brunch. After the brunch, we will head outside for some fun outdoor activities. We hope to see you there!

The third week, our topic will be on transportation. Some of our art activities will include making airplanes, buses, boats and cars. During this week our summer session officially starts. Tuesday's will be our wading pool day. Please have your child wear his or her swimsuit underneath their clothing and bring a bag with a towel and sunscreen. Please label all your child's belongings.

The last week of June, our topic will be on ocean animals. We will be learning how to care for the ocean and how everything we put down the drain directly affects the ocean and all its inhabitants, including corals. We will watch a video on ocean animals and work on art projects related to this subject. The art projects will include: making dolphins, seals, sea horses and whales.

We were sorry to see Mrs. Laila leave this month. She is staying home to take care of her family. We will miss her. We wish her the best.

MWF 5 a.m./ p.m. 4 Yr. Old Class

Mrs. Amy, Mrs. Jeanette, Mrs. Kathy, Ms. Maxine

We can hardly believe it is almost time to send the children off to Kindergarten. It seems like just yesterday we met some of them for the first time. Recently, we looked at some pictures we had taken at the beginning of the year and were amazed at how much they had grown and matured.

We spent May finishing up our study of the alphabet. We made wallets and played with water during the heat wave, examined x-rays, made yarn sculptures and designed our own zoo. A few highlights this month were our mini field trip to the mailbox, the visit from our mail carrier and sitting in the mail truck. Of course, we also spent part of May honoring moms. Thanks to all for attending our very special Mother's Day Tea Party. At the end of the month we studied caterpillars and butterflies. The children have greatly enjoyed watching the metamorphosis process the silkworms have been demonstrating.

In June, we will have our annual Park Day on the last day of school. We will send home more information soon.

The teachers would like to send a big thank you to all the families for bringing in the beautiful flowers and the special treats for Teacher Appreciation week. We feel very much appreciated.

Quotes for May:

When Carolyn was asked if she reads to her sister she responded ÒNo, she can't hearÓ.

While doing an art project Jaden exclaimed, ÒI'm an expertÓ.

Room 4 Four Year Old Pre-K

We hope to have more sunnier days in March. With so many rainy days, we get a lot of questions about playground time. Thank you to Evan and Ally’s moms for doing a dragon project with the MWF classes to celebrate Chinese New Year. Also, Ally’s mom came in and did a valentine project-Thanks

March will see the class working on letters R (week of March 3), S and T (week of March 10),U and V (Week of March 17) andconcluding with W and X (week of March 24). We plan on finishing the alphabet by mid April so the children can take the books home that month. The Me Book page will ask ”Who do you like to play with?”

The first week of the month we will talk about Space, planets, rockets and astronauts. This will be followed by decorating shamrocks. Reinforcing letter T will include making turtles and painting tiger colors(orange and black).

March 17 and 18 are Green Days. We will also introduce Spring related themes-cutting ovals and decorating them to make an holiday egg: rabbits, chicks and making bunny ear headbands are some of the other projects.

Concluding this month, the children will draw treasure maps and draw x to mark the spot to coincide with letter X. They will also make a collage with white paper for W.

Some quotes from Room 4:

Camelia: ”I am going to open my piggy bank. I love money. You can buy stuff with it.”

Parin: “My Dad’s favorite colors are red (for Rutgers) and blue(for Giants).”

Ally(replying to the question, who is the President?):”I think it is George Lucas.”

Music and Movement

Mrs. Judy Hobart

We have had a lot of fun in the Music and movement program. This February we learned and sang Valentine’s songs such as “There’s a Little Wheel a Turning in My Heart, and I’m a Little Valentine For You.

The children in all class levels have gotten so much more agile and physically

competent. They’ve climbed and learned how to turn around and descend from the climbing station. The 3’s and 4’s classes are confident bouncing and balancing on the sit-on bouncers now. When weather has permitted we have divided into two teams and practiced playing kickball in the outside quad area. We have some great future soccer players starting their careershere!

The traditional game of hopscotch and the limbo game are being played in the four year olds classes. They are also practicing the “Do-Re-Mi “ song and “Its A Small World After All”. We are also learning traditional circle games and movement songs. These games and songs come from the excellent CD and companion book put out by the New England Dance Masters Productions . It is called “Down in the Valley”.(Can be found at Linden Tree bookstore in Los Altos.)

In the twos and threes classes we are moving and dancing as well as practicing jumping over a rope-”River”. The three year olds are now climbing at the high level on the climbing station and are quite proud of themselves.

The twos are moving and shaking their sillies out to Greg and Steve’s CD’s “Rockin Down the Road” and “On the Move. They are learning to take turns in a group by rolling the ball to each other.

Mrs. Sherry, Jadyn Ko’s mom, has volunteered to play piano for us as we sing when her busy schedule allows her to. The children enjoy having her accompany them while they sing.
