On behalf of the staff, I want to thank all of the families for making the Teacher’s Appreciation Week so special for all of us. The flowers, cards, pictures and kind wishes were very much appreciated. Your support , generosity and caring and loyalty you have had for our school, make our job much easier in these uncertain times.

  Update from Congregational Community Church

Dear Community Preschool Parents, Teachers, and Staff,

Here is a brief update to keep you informed as summer approaches.

  1. The preschool program will operate, as planned, till mid June 2010 and the child care classes will operate, as planned, till end of August 2010.

  2. We continue to operate the Preschool throughout the entire academic year 2009/10 or till a new owner steps in - whichever comes first.

  3. We will continue with the play based curriculum and the teacher/children ratios in the academic year 2009/10. We will insert this condition into the contract with the buyer.

  4. We intend to have a broker contract signed by end of June, have the offering package available by end of July and have a buyer contract signed by February 2010. We will work with the new owner to create a seamless transition.

As you know, the Community Preschool has been a success story since it opened 41

years ago with a very attractive site, a highly valued curriculum and a professional staff. As we transfer the ownership of preschool, we empathize with all parents and staff members as this change brings with it some uncertainty. We seek to ease that uncertainty by keeping you informed of significant developments. Our preschool provides a wonderful experience for children and their families. We thank you for your love for the school and for the teachers.

If you are leaving for the summer break, we pray that your travels may be safe and full of fun. We look forward to seeing you again in the fall. If you have questions or would like to receive the offering package, when available, please contact our director, Barbara Steinmetz.

Sincerely,

Darryl Alford

History

Community Pre-School was started in 1968 and is sponsored by the Congregational Community Church of Sunnyvale.   It grew out of a desire of  the congregation to provide a loving and caring environment for children. With the qualifications and enthusiasm of staff members, the school continues to grow in quality and reputation.  In 2006, we were awarded the City of Sunnyvale's Best Teachers Award and the Best Director Award.  In 2007, we received the honor of being awarded, again by the City of Sunnyvale with the Best Teachers Award and the Best Preschool Award. We are proud of the status our school has earned.

Philosophy/Goals

All children ages two through six may be enrolled in our program. Children of  all racial, religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcome. We believe in  nourishing all aspects of a child's development.

The curriculum is designed to help each child grow to her/his potential within an atmosphere which nurtures positive self-image and social skills while developing pre-academic skills needed in a school situation. Our qualified and caring  teachers are guides who motivate the children to reach their developmental potential.  Provisions are  made for each child to experience literature, science, math,  creative art, music, language and physical activity within a structured and unstructured schedule using developmentally appropriate practices and materials.  Children are encouraged to experience their world, to grow and to develop independence and positive self-esteem.
